"I had worked in churches from the time I was in high school, playing for Masses, funerals, etc., and in college I knew this was a career I wanted to pursue. Completing my Master's Degree at Notre Dame allowed me the opportunity to hone my craft not just musically, but by deepening my understanding of the liturgy and worship. I was given opportunities to add so many skills to my "toolbox" -- hymn playing and improvisation skills, practice and time management skills, communication and organization skills. For my current position especially, my time at Notre Dame prepared me to be able to juggle both the administrative and performative (music) sides of my job. "

"As a master’s student in Vocal Performance within the Sacred Music at Notre Dame program ['17], I had the privilege of studying under Dr. Stephen Lancaster, who played a pivotal role in refining my craft as a vocal storyteller. Through joint and solo recital experiences, I was encouraged to explore the vast landscape of sacred music—encompassing both Western and non-Western traditions. This exploration opened the door to recording collaborations with composers such as Robert Kyr and Dr. Emerson Eads, as well as jazz legend Arturo Sandoval for the Christmas at Notre Dame project.

During my pursuit of a Doctor of Musical Arts in Choral Conducting ['22], I was fortunate to expand my artistry through multiple leadership opportunities: collaborating with the University of Notre Dame Folk Choir, directing the Voices of Faith Gospel Choir, launching the talk show Black@ND, and conducting the chorale ensemble for Kathleen Battle’s Underground Railroad: A Spiritual Journey at the DeBartolo Performing Arts Center.

Sacred Music at Notre Dame served as a true launching pad for my career. It positioned me to engage meaningfully across diverse musical spheres—many of which I may not have encountered otherwise. The pedagogical and artistic foundations I received as both a vocalist and conductor have equipped me to serve as a practitioner, educator, and scholar of African American sacred music."

"I developed a wealth of information at SMND - the experience and resume building enabled me to feel adept in almost any scenario. I feel confident stepping into various environments knowing that I am capable & qualified. I regularly sing church services and concerts with top ensembles and in multiple denominations, and the experience gained during my time at Notre Dame has enabled me to become a regular in these places."
