SMND Choral Ensembles
Welcome!
In the choirs of the Sacred Music at Notre Dame program, we pursue artistic excellence, foster meaningful community, and explore the transformative power of vocal ensemble music through rehearsal, performance, and shared musical discovery. Our choirs are open to undergraduate and graduate students from all departments as well as community members.

All SMND students are required to complete an audition for choral placement.
SMND Concordia Vocal Ensemble
The SMND Concordia, Dr. Amanda Quist, artistic director, is Notre Dame's semi-professional choral ensemble. It is comprised of Sacred Music at Notre Dame and the Department of Music students, Notre Dame undergraduate and graduate students, and singers from the community. Concordia meets regularly for academic credit. Highlights this year include concerts in the South Bend Community, a residency with Notre Dame alumnus and Director-Emeritus of Seraphic Fire Patrick Quigley, and a residency with world-renowned composer James MacMillan, with a performance of his Seven Last Words. All singers with music-reading and choral experience are encouraged to sign up for a Choral Audition, link above.
*For Fall 2026 the choir rehearses Monday & Wednesday from 12:30pm-2:30pm.
SMND Vox Lumina
Vox Lumina is the graduate student recital choir of the Sacred Music Program. It is comprised of graduate and undergraduate students from Sacred Music at Notre Dame, the Department of Music, and vocalists from across the entire University. Recitals throughout the semester will be led by MSM and DMA in Conducting students, as well as by Dr. Amanda Quist, Director of Choral Activities. Highlights this year include recitals in the South Bend Community, a residency with Notre Dame alumnus and Director-Emeritus of Seraphic Fire Patrick Quigley, and a residency with world-renowned composer James MacMillan, with a performance of his Seven Last Words. All singers with music-reading experience are encouraged to sign up for a Choral Audition, please see the link above.
*For Fall 2026 the choir rehearses Tuesday & Thursday from 2:00pm-3:15pm.
Notre Dame Children's Choir
Ages: Newborn through 18 years old
Meets: After School on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays (number of days per is age dependent)
The Notre Dame Children’s Choir educates over 150 singers in 7 choirs each week. Choristers from birth through high school are invited to participate at no cost to families. The Choir tours, records, and commissions music annually; their first album, O Emmanuel, ranked #1 on Billboard's Chart of Traditional Classical Music for seven weeks, and their third album, Arturo Sandoval's Christmas at Notre Dame, debuted at #2 on Billboard's Chart of Jazz Music.
The choirs have worked with conductors from around the world including directors from Leeds Cathedral, UK; Metropolitan Cathedral of Liverpool, UK; East Anglia Cathedral, UK; the Madeleine Choir School, Salt Lake City, UT; the Indianapolis Children's Choir; the Chicago Children's Choir; the College of New Jersey, and Indiana University Bloomington. They toured through England and from New York City to Los Angeles, sang at Walt Disney Concert Hall and the Meyerson Symphony Center, and performed for the National Pastoral Musicians' Conference, Hymn Society of the United States and Canada, the Organ Historical Society, the Indiana Music Educators' Association, and TEDx.

Notre Dame Children’s Liturgical Choir & Lay Clerks
Auditions Required: Request an audition by email: ndcchoir@nd.edu.
Meets: Mondays 3:45–6:00 p.m.
The Notre Dame Children’s Liturgical Choir hires adult singers to serve as Lay Clerks alongside child sopranos for mass and vespers at the Basilica of the Sacred Heart and Saint Mary's College Church of Our Lady of Loretto. The choir sings the music of Palestrina, Josquin, Tallis, Howels, Britten, Stanford, Victoria, Messian, and Gregorian Chant.
