SMND Conducting Recital: Howard Eckdahl

Location: St Monica Catholic Church, 222 W Mishawaka Ave, Mishawaka, IN 46545

First year DMA student, Howard Eckdahl, will conduct the Concordia Choir and Ritornello Ensemble in his first degree recital, The Life and Lamentations of David. Follow the arc of David's biblical narrative through a cappella settings of psalms from the renaissance, baroque verse anthem, and 20th-century concert pieces. Readings will complement the music and tell the story of David: his lowly origins, his rise, reign, sin, and grief. Featuring Purcell's Jehovah, quam multi sunt hostes mei and Whitacre's When David Heard.

Public Voice Masterclass with Martin Katz

World-renowned pianist and vocal coach, Martin Katz, will work with Notre Dame's undergraduate voice majors (4:00-5:00 p.m.) and the SMND graduate voice studio (5:00-6:30 p.m.) in a public masterclass on Wednesday, November 14 in the LaBar Recital Hall, O'Neill Hall of Music. Martin Katz has been dubbed “the gold standard of accompanists” by The New York Times. Guest Organist Concert: JOHN SCHWANDT

Location: DeBartolo Performing Arts Center, Reyes Organ and Choral Hall

John D. Schwandt will be performing a varied program including an original composition as well as pieces by Bach ("My Spirit Be Joyful") and Buxtehude on the Fritts Organ plus works by Gabrieli and Cavazonni performed on the Italian organ.
