This conducting recital led by Wm. Blake Bruchhaus celebrates the ministries of Saint Francis of Assisi and His Holiness, Pope Francis. The program begins and ends with Psalm settings of praise bringing to mind the now famous line used by both St. Francis and Pope Francis, "Laudato si', mi' Signore." Two musical settings of prayers attributed to St. Francis will be performed acknowledging both men's vocation to bring peace in times of trouble and light in times of darkness. The recital will culminate with Schubert's Mass in G.

DMA Organ Student Emily Meixner to Perform on Local Recital Series

Emily Meixner will open the 2015-2016 recital season at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church with a solo performance on the church's Ruggles, Op. 25 pipe organ. Ms. Meixner, a second-year doctoral student in organ performance at the University of Notre Dame, is director of music at The Episcopal Church of St. John the Evangelist in Elkhart, Indiana. Her program for All Saints Day includes works by Buxtehude, Bach, Brahms, and Heiller. This event is free to all and donations are gladly accepted in support of the parish music program.

A native of New England, Jacobs School of Music Professor Christopher Young is the winner of the 1988 National Young Artists Competition (NYACOP) of the American Guild of Organists and the 1988 Arthur Poister Competition (Syracuse University).

Dr. Young has been a featured artist at national and regional conventions of the American Guild of Organists. He has been heard as a featured performer on American Public Media's "Pipedreams" and has appeared in concert with the Rochester (Minnesota) Chamber Chorale, the Minneapolis Chamber Symphony and with his wife, violinist Brenda Brenner. His compact disc, "To Thee All Angels Cry Aloud," was released on the Pro Organo label.…

Professor Carmen-Helena Téllez, head of the Conducting Studio of the Sacred Music Program will conduct in the Cello Fest in honor of Professor Karen Buranskas, who retires from Notre Dame this year. The program of iconic works for cello orchestra includes Julius Klengel's Hymnus and Heitor Villa-Lobos' Bachianas Brasileiras No. 5, with guest soprano Megan Dewald.
