Michael Olson

MSM - Conducting

Michael Olson is a conductor, tenor, and educator from Alberta, Canada. He currently studies Choral Conducting at the University of Notre Dame, where he also works with the South Bend Chamber Singers and the Notre Dame Children's Choir. Michael previously earned a Bachelor of Music degree (Elective Studies in Business) from the Wheaton College Conservatory of Music, where he served as assistant conductor of the flagship mixed choir and student chaplain of the conservatory. He has attended workshops with Jerry Blackstone, Matthew Mehaffey, Brian Schmidt, Martina Batič, and the King’s Singers.
In 2022, he founded Convivium Vocal Ensemble, a new six-voice chamber ensemble that engages a wide variety of styles with conviction, precision, and warmth. Recent directing projects also include a coffeehouse-style production of Bach’s “Coffee Cantata” Schweigt stille, plaudert nicht (complete with local coffee) and an album of choral works by Colorado composer James Battersby.
