A.J. Lyon

DMA - Organ
A.J. Lyon is an organist, composer, and pianist from Randleman, North Carolina. He is a 1st-year DMA student at the University of Notre Dame studying Organ under Dr. Kola Owolabi. He received the Master of Sacred Music in Organ from Notre Dame, and the Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance and Composition from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. His previous instructors include Dr. Annie Jeng (Piano), Dr. Marya Fancey (Organ), Dr. Mark Engebretson (Composition), Dr. Alejandro Rutty (Composition), and Terri McDowell (Piano).
He has held positions at various churches, including Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church (Greensboro, NC), St. Joseph Catholic Church (Asheboro, NC), and the Basilica of the Sacred Heart (Notre Dame, IN). He is currently an organist at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Mishawaka, IN. At Notre Dame, he is also the Music Minister for the Congregation of the Holy Cross in Corby Hall, accompanist for the Concordia Vocal Ensemble, and a member of both the Basilica Schola and the SMND Chamber Choir. His works have been performed across the US, as well as internationally. He has a particular interest in drawing themes from nature and incorporating them into his pieces.
