Biography
Mary Catherine is an associate professor of organ and church music at Notre Dame. She teaches organ to undergraduate music majors, secondary organ lessons to graduate students in the SMND program, as well as courses in organ literature and the practice of church music. She served as the director of music at Mount St. Mary’s Seminary and School of Theology for the Archdiocese of Cincinnati from 2016-2025. She received a Doctorate of Musical Arts in organ performance from the University of Notre Dame in 2017, where she was a student of Dr. Craig Cramer. She received the Best DMA Thesis Award for her dissertation, “The Chant-based Organ Works of Anton Heiller.” Dr. Levri served as the Assistant Director of the Liturgical Choir, Director of the Community Choir, and Assistant Organist at the Basilica of the Sacred Heart at Notre Dame from 2010 to 2015. In 2008, she received a Master’s of Theological Studies from the Pontifical John Paul II Institute for Studies in Marriage and Family.
Dr. Levri has published a number of essays and articles on Catholic sacred music in the Humanum Review, the Adoremus Bulletin, and the Communio International Catholic Review. Dr. Levri served as the President of the Society for Catholic Liturgy from 2022-2024 and has given lectures on church music for the Archdiocese of Cincinnati, the National Association of Pastoral Musicians, the American Guild of Organists, and the Notre Dame Center for Liturgy. She has served as organist and choir director in parishes in Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia, and Indiana.
