EXIGENCE, a Detroit-based professional vocal ensemble, continues the Sphinx Organization's presence on the schedules of South Bend's leading presenters of music. The 31-member ensemble — whose name means "great need" — was formed in 2018 to harness the creative energy and excellence of Black and LatinX professional choral music artists.

EXIGENCE, a professional vocal ensemble highlighting artistry within Black and Latinx communities, will perform at Notre Dame's DeBartolo Performing Arts Center on Thursday, Feb. 2, 2023. Led by founding conductor Eugene Rogers and comprising vocal artists who include solo performers, educators, conductors and composers, as well as faculty member Stephen Lancaster of the Sacred Music Program and Notre Dame Department of Music, EXIGENCE celebrates the power of community and expression through choral music.
