Join Concordia Vocal Ensemble and the Notre Dame Children's Liturgical Choir for a sensory experience like none other. Inspired by the BLACKOUT restaurant movement where diners are served in complete darkness to heighten their sense of taste, BLACKOUT Sacred Music plunges our audiences into total light deprivation to heighten hearing, deep listening, and a sense of the sacred mystery. Hear the music of James MacMillan, Ēriks Ešenvalds, Gabriel Fauré, Daniel Pinkham, Johannes Brahms and more like you have never heard them.

Pre-Concert
The LaBar Performance Hall will be partially lit when you enter. We ask that you place all light emitting objects, such as cell phones, watches, and cameras into a pocket, purse, or backpack so that it does not interrupt the sensory experience of others. We also suggest visiting the restroom facilities before entering the performance Hall.

During the Concert
The performance will begin after the Hall fades to darkness. Should you need to leave for any reason, please walk toward the red emergency exit signs in the East and North corners of the Hall.

We ask that you refrain from applause until the end of the performance when the lights are raised. Allow the music to flow over and through you. There are no right or wrong ways to respond and if you happen to fall asleep, let it be one of deep rest!

Dos and Don'ts
Do come with an open mind to have an incredible sensory experience.
Do come prepared to conceal or turn off your cell phones and other lit devices.
Do be prepared to give up your sense of sight for a short period of time in order to enhance your other senses.
Don’t be concerned about being in a pitch black concert hall. Our staff are nearby and prepared to help as needed.
Arrive early as seating is limited. Doors open at 7:00pm.

This performance will be live-streamed.

Event is free and open to the public.
