Colloquium: Teri Larson, "An Unlikely Journey: Music in a Cathedral Basilica"

Ms Teri Larson, Director of Music, Basilica of St. Mary in Minneapolis will be presenting on her work building communities of musicians of all ages, including youth and children, her repertorial choices, and how she has managed during the pandemic. She will also talk about the joys that come to her as the director of a large, Roman Catholic church music program.

Teri Larson has served as Choral Director/Director of Music since the fall of 1995. She oversees the music program, leads the Cathedral Choir, the semi-professional Schola Cantorum, and the  Cathedral Choristers. Ms Larson founded the children’s choral program, which spans all ages, Pre-K through High School.  She plans music for the parish community, develops special liturgies as well as Archdiocesan liturgical celebrations. Ms. Larson founded the junior cantor ministry at The Basilica, a tiered program to incorporate youth as music leaders. She has served as a Repertoire and Standards Chair / Worship for ACDA-MN; has served as president for the local chapter of the Twin Cities Choristers Guild and is a past President for the National Board of Directors for Choristers Guild, which fosters the singing of youth in the worship setting. She has conducted festivals and honors choirs across the nation through ACDA / AGO and NPM.  Her choirs have been selected to appear at both regional and national ACDA conventions. The Cathedral Choir has traveled on concert tours to Europe on numerous occasions and 4 CD recordings.

Ms. Larson holds degrees from St. Olaf College, Northfield, MN and St. Cloud State University. She is a member of The Conference of Roman Catholic Cathedral Musicians, Pueri Cantores, and Choristers Guild.
