First year Doctor of Musical Arts student Emmanuel De Leon Jr. from the Philippines will conduct the SMND Concordia Choir and Ritornello Ensemble in "Papuri at Pasasalamat : An Advent Concert", his first DMA recital to be held on December 12, 2019 (Thursday) 7:30pm at 120 O’Neill Hall, The LaBar Recital Hall (East Wing), University of Notre Dame.

"Papuri at Pasasalamat : An Advent Concert" will be an evening of Baroque and Classical music featuring “Nun Komm, Der Heiden Heiland” (BWV 61 – A Cantata for the first Sunday of Advent written in 1714) by Johann Sebastian Bach, Salve Regina in G Minor (Hob. XXIIIb: 2, written in 1771) and Te Deum (Hob. XXIIIc: 1, written in 1764) by Joseph Haydn.

The concert seeks to create a bridge between the modern audience and the great composers of past centuries, with a selection of sacred choral works of prayer and gratitude.

The concert is entitled after a phrase in Emmanuel’s mother tongue, which translates to “Praise and Gratitude.” In the spirit of Advent, Emmanuel dedicates this recital to the University of Notre Dame for being selected as one of its conducting scholars this academic year.
