Join Zen Kuriyama and the musicians of Sacred Music at Notre Dame for this Palm Sunday recital. Featuring Arvo Pärt's Stabat Mater, this recital is intended as a devotional service--wedding together text, prayer, and music--to prepare our minds and hearts for Holy Week. Also featured will be two works by Gerald Finzi: Prelude for String Orchestra in F minor, op. 25 and Farewell to Arms, op. 9, featuring tenor Nolan Carter. The Georgian Marian chant 'Shen Khar Venakhi'--written in homage to the Blessed Mother and which was the only chant allowed in Soviet-occupied Georgia--will center our love and appreciation for Mary, who stood at the foot of the cross.
