Elements of “folk” aesthetic are intrinsic to every facet of our collective pop culture consciousness. Music, art, literature, film, and fashion are not immune to the far reaching bucolic beauty of our romanticized past. It is from this angle that her recital explores “the folk” through the lens of Romantic and Post Romantic composers like Loeffler, Brahms, Respighi, Grieg, and Clarke. What can we learn about love, nature, the divine, and our inner most pain and identity while interpreting these common themes in the ancient stories that every people from every culture holds dear through a wiser, more discerning, modern sensibility?
