"Stabat Mater" A DMA Conducting Recital by Emerson Eads

-

Location: DeBartolo Performing Arts Center, Leighton Hall

Stabat Mater  is considered  Haydn's most popular choral work of his early period. It sets the beautiful 13th-century hymn with such dramatic ability that it garnered him an international reputation as an oratorio composer.  The work gathers inspiration from Pergolesi's earlier masterpiece of the same name, which will be experienced later in the DPACs Presenting Series. Stabat Mater leads us in the journey of overwhelming grief endured by the Virgin Mary,  through which we will reach to the joy of eternity in Paradise.  Stabat Mater will feature Victoria Fraser, soprano; Toby Newman, mezzo; Charles Reid, tenor; Michael Nansel, bass; The Notre Dame Concordia Choir, & Ritornello Ensemble.

"from which our laughter rises" by Emerson Eads features New York based mezzo-soprano, Toby Newman, with a text gathered and written by the composer's brother Evan Eads. The title was adapted from this passage from Kahlil Gibran's On Joy and Sorrow from The ProphetThe cantata written specifically for this occasion, features the solo participation of Cleveland Orchestra oboist Thomas Moore.
