Superstar baritone Nathan Gunn portrays the title role in Felix Mendelssohn’s dramatic and powerful oratorio Elijah, a story of powerful, warring personalities and miraculous events told through some of the most beautiful and sublime music of the 19th century. Sung in English. an epic story from the Old Testament, with the participation of Notre Dame Vocale, Notre Dame Chorale and the South Bend Chamber Singers, conducted by Carmen Helena Tellez. Part of the Mellon Interdisciplinary Sacred Music Drama Projects at Notre Dame.

Join us and noted Mendelssohn scholar, Professor Jeffrey Sposato of the University of Houston, titled "Elijah and Mendelssohn's 'Jewishness.'" Professor Sposato will examine Elijah in relation to both Mendelssohn's Jewish heritage and his deeply held Lutheran beliefs.
