This conducting recital led by Brendan Barker is an interdisciplinary performance built upon the narrative of a soul’s journey through the darkness (tenebris) of sin and chaos to the light (lux) of God’s mercy. The first three pieces (Haydn, Victoria & Berlioz), representing the Classical, Renaissance, and Romantic periods respectively will be performed as traditional concert repertoire. After a sitar interlude that establishes the raga or “scale” of the final piece, James Whitbourn’s Luminosity will be performed alongside a light installation designed by two collaborating M.F.A. students, Allison Evans and Sarah Edmands Martin.
