SMND alumnus Emerson Eads conducted a performance of his “Mass for the Oppressed” at St. Philip’s of the Hills in Tucson, Arizona, on February 3, 2019. Eads’ “Mass for the Oppressed” was composed to commemorate the wrongful conviction case in Alaska of “The Fairbanks Four” in which four Alaska Natives were accused of an unsolved murder. He was hosted at St. Philip’s of the Hills, whose Music Director, Justin Appel, is also an alumnus of SMND as well as a doctoral student from the same time as Eads. Eads is currently director of choral activities at Minot State University, North Dakota.
