Professor Kola Owolabi released a new CD recording (2 CDs) on January 31, 2023, featuring Georg Muffat’s Apparatus musico-organistus (1690).  This important collection of South German baroque music includes 12 toccatas and 3 variation pieces, and is representative of Muffat’s unique approach to blending Italian, French and German musical styles.  Each toccata features a different character capturing the qualities of its mode, and the pieces contrast bold harmonic progressions with clever imitative counterpoint.  This is the first recording of Muffat’s keyboard works performed on North American organs and is the debut recording of two new instruments at Christ Church Cathedral in Cincinnati, OH:  the Italian style C. B. Fisk organ, Opus 148 (2018), tuned in modified meantone, and Richards, Fowkes & Co, Opus 24 (2021), which uses well-tempered tuning.  The recording is accompanied by an extensive booklet which discusses Muffat’s career, the works in this collection and the featured instruments.

The recording is available from Acis Productions as a double CD set or as a digital download in several different formats and can also be found on iTunes and Spotify.
