Dr. Carmen-Helena Téllez, Professor of Choral Conducting, conducted two operas in October. On October 24, she returned to the National Theatre of Ecuador for the third time this year to conduct Mozart's The Magic Flute as the main event of the international conference of Opera Latinoamérica, the association of opera theaters of Latin America and Spain. She then returned to South Bend to conduct Musica Speculativa, a interdisciplinary work with digital media by Ryan Olivier, with Ensemble Concept/21, the resident new music ensemble of Indiana University South Bend. She invited alum Caleb Wenzel (DMA 2016) to be her co-conductor. The work, also labeled an "opera" included a mixed ensemble with voice, dancer, instrumentalists, video,  and interactive computers performing in real time. It took place on October 27 and 28.
